Building a sustainable business

Committed to responsible business

At Safefood 360° we’re committed to responsible business and we acknowledge that as a business we can do many things to promote sustainability and help protect the future of our planet.

After carefully analyzing the impact of our business on the environment we identified three key areas: offices, travel and data processing. The biggest source of emissions in our business is business travel, so we’ve taken extra measures to offset the impact of our travelling workforce. Below you will discover our approach to running a sustainable business.

Our commitment to sustainable business

Paper-free offices and recycling

Our goal is to help our clients run their food safety management systems efficiently and in a paper free manner. We practice what we preach and have dedicated ourselves to operating an entirely paper-free business. Nothing is printed unless absolutely necessary and any paper generated or received is responsibly shredded and recycled. Our employees are housed in modern, energy-smart physical office locations around the world and we are continually seeking opportunities to reduce energy use in our offices.

CO2-neutral business travel

Our company policy is to offset any greenhouse emissions caused by business travel by donating funds to reforestation projects around the globe. We use a CO2-calculator to estimate the impact of our business travel and offset the emissions, making our workforce travel carbon neutral. Furthermore we reduce travel wherever possible by using online meeting services and by providing flexible working conditions for our employees allowing them to both work from home and commute during off-peak hours. We encourage our employees to make use of public transportation and a tax-free bike to work scheme.

Green datacenters and data processing

Our software runs in the Microsoft Azure cloud, which is one of the greenest technology platforms in the world. On average power usage effectiveness (PUE, a measure of energy efficiency) in 2012 was 1.40 across all of our cloud infrastructure deployments, compared with an estimated industry average of 2.0 (the theoretical best achievable PUE is 1.0). Additionally, by utilizing solid state drives and the reduced energy consumption of virtual machines our internal computer systems achieve the greatest energy efficiencies possible.
