We have always prided ourselves on the fact that Safefood 360° is the only software solution created and run by food safety professionals which combines unparalleled domain subject knowledge to an innovative software platform built against a gap analysis of major retailer technical standards and GFSI requirements such as BRCGS and SQFI.
This domain knowledge has meant that among our many achievements, we are the only software solution to the global food industry that has been cited in regulatory proposals including a key submission to the Medicinal and Adult-Use Cannabis Regulation and Safety Act in California.
We have also recognized that while our software helps many food businesses meet everyday obligations with their retailer, technical, customer, and own internal standards, there is a wealth of knowledge and learnings that were used to build these solutions which remain inaccessible to many.
We have always endeavored to share this knowledge and ensure it is available to all, so we regularly release in-depth technical whitepapers, free to download toolkits, datasheets, and our monthly blogs to help in this matter.
However, in response to the events of 2020, we have recognized that many food safety practitioners have sought to expand their knowledge of the core principles of food safety management but may face difficulty in doing so.
In response to this, we have begun a new series of monthly educational ‘masterclasses’ which draw on our practical experience from working with many of the globe’s leading food brands and indeed our own history of teaching.
What are Masterclasses?
This new series of classes are being led by our co-founder and Director of Digital Innovation, George Howlett.
For almost 20 years and prior to founding Safefood 360°, George has lectured on a MSc in Food Safety at one of Ireland’s leading technical universities.
This new series of Masterclasses expands on George’s practical experience of teaching many of Ireland’s future food safety practitioners who themselves are growing in their knowledge of the discipline.
Registration and attendance are completely free and sessions will be hosted virtually, so all are welcome to join, regardless of geographical location or their status, whether they be student, consultant, current user of our platform, or merely just interested in the subject matter of a particular session.
Sessions will take place monthly and are intended to be educational and academic in nature, focusing on the key disciplines a food safety practitioner should know, i.e., management, communication, technical knowledge, science, engineering, statistics, and hazards.
The first session has already taken place and focused on a high-level overview of the Food Safety Framework and the critical elements required for effective food safety management, including an introduction to Risk.

In this second- session, we will drill down into the requirements for Hazard Identification, Hazard Characterization, Exposure Assessment, and finally, Risk Characterization.
Finally, that session will conclude with a review of the variability and uncertainty that should be considered when measuring risk.
We hope that this session, like the others planned, will give the attendee a practical and digestible understanding of the key principles of the subject matter and how they relate to other areas of the discipline.
